Every year we join forces with our media partners, contributors and sponsors to invite destinations, businesses and projects for applications, and every year this process yields hundreds of unique applicants. The application deadline has now passed for the 2012 Tourism for Tomorrow Awards.
Candidates can apply in one of the following four Award Categories: Destination Stewardship Award, Conservation Award, Community Benefit Award and the Global Tourism Business Award. Read more about the Award Categories here.
Once all applications have been received the judging procedure really begins - applicants have to go through a unique and rigorous three-step process including site visits. And, an international team of 15-20 judges, representing a wide range of professional backgrounds and expertise in the Travel & Tourism industry, decide on the winners after choosing three finalists in each category. The WTTC Tourism for Tomorrow Awards are one of the world's highest accolades in the Travel & Tourism industry. They are aimed at recognising best practice in sustainable tourism within the industry worldwide.
Given the growing concern about natural and cultural resources, these Awards are particularly important to WTTC and provide the Council with the opportunity of promoting and partnering with the industry leaders in responsible tourism, highlighting the prime examples of best practice.
Winners and finalists of the Awards are invited to a prestigious ceremony hosted as part of the World Travel & Tourism Council's annual Global Summit. This year it will beheld from 16-19 April 2012 in Tokyo, Japan.
The winners are announced to an audience of the 1000 leading CEOs in the industry, government officials, tourism ministers and the media.
We work with a variety of media partners to share the stories of our winners with the public - including National Geographic Channel, National Geographic Traveler and Budget Travel Magazine.
