DR GRAHAM MILLER

Head of the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management, University of Surrey, UK

Dr Graham Miller is Head of the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management at the University of Surrey, England, where he teaches issues relating to business ethics, sustainability and the tourism industry. The University of Surrey is the number one university in the UK and Europe for the study and research of tourism and hospitality, having offered degrees in the subject for over 40 years.

Graham attended university in Japan and then went on to live there for another three years afterwards. It was the then high yen and the travel throughout Asia it allowed that really sparked a love of seeing new people and places.

Today, Graham's main research interest is in the drivers and barriers for making a transition towards a more sustainable tourism industry, publishing the first book to address the monitoring of sustainable tourism in 2005. More recently, Graham has investigated changing the behavior of tourists towards the consumption of more sustainable tourism products. As part of this research Graham completed a major study for the UK government Department for the Environment on public awareness of sustainable tourism and leisure.

Other recent clients have included the Department of Trade and Industry, Economic and Social Research Council, EU, National Audit Office, TUI-AG, Travel Trust Association, and Ipsos-Mori.

Graham sits on the editorial board of the Journal of Sustainable Tourism and Annals of Tourism Research and is the Tourism editor of the journal Tourism and Hospitality Research.
