Peter D Krahenbuhl is Vice President and co-founder of Sustainable Travel International (STI), where he co-developed the world's first travel industry specific, non-profit global eco-certification programme to help companies measure, manage, and verify triple bottom line impacts. He has implemented and advised regarding best practices solutions for small enterprises to Fortune 500 Companies, provided expert consultancy at UN Foundation and international development workshops, and has led program and business development, including international negotiations. Mr Krahenbuhl manages STI's standards / certification programme, climate mitigation and carbon offset programme, as well as STI's European operations. He helped develop several multi-industry firsts related to triple bottom line eco-certification, including assessing regional sustainable tourism standards, developing sector specific standards, and advising regarding related destination stewardship and green marketing integration. His extensive experience includes climate impact reduction and carbon offset activities, including corporate carbon footprint measurement, management and communications, and consumer oriented firsts related to company specific custom carbon calculator development. His leadership experience also extends to ecotourism operations and community-based development.
Prior to STI, Mr Krahenbuhl developed and operated an eco / adventure travel company, and simultaneously authored the Hunter Travel Guides Adventure Guide to Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands (Hunter Publishing, 2003). Mr Krahenbuhl received his Master of Public Affairs from Indiana University (IU), School of Public and Environmental Affairs (SPEA), with a double concentration in Comparative International Affairs / Environmental Policy & Natural Resource Management. He received his double Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and Environmental Studies from the University of California at Santa Barbara (UCSB).
